Admission notice for Master of Computer Application (MCA)
for the session 2011-12


Applications are invited from the eligible candidates for admission to MCA
course 2011


The admission will be done on the basis of merit in the entrance test to be
conducted by Himachal Pradesh University, Summer Hill, Shimla on 28th
May, 2011
, Saturday, 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.


Admission procedure: The admission will be done on the basis
of merit in the entrance test to be conducted by H.P. University, Shimla. The
applicants are required to submit duly filled application form along with a
demand draft of Rs 650/- for general category and Rs 325/- for SC/ST/IRDP/Antodaya
in favour of Chairman, dept of computer science, H.P. University, Shimla payable
at Shimla

Total seats: Subsidized seats 30 + 01 (reserved for only
child who is a girl); non-subsidized seats 15; total seats in MCA course 46


Duration of the course: 3 years (6 semesters)


Private affiliated colleges: H.P. Institute of Management
Studies 60 (non-subsidized); LR Group of Institutes 60 (non-subsidized)


Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at
least 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST) from a University established by law in
India, with Mathematics at + 2 level; or BCA/B.Sc (IT)/ B.Sc (Computer
Science)/any graduate with computers as one of the subject in all the three
years of graduation with at least 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST) from a
university established by law in India


 Age limit: Maximum age limit for admission to MCA course is
26 years for general category, 29 years for SC/ST category and 28 years for girl
candidates, as on the 1st July of the year concerned


The vice-chancellor may permit age relaxation up to a maximum of three months


Basis of admission: The admission to MCA course will be made
on the basis of merit of the entrance examination (written test) conducted by
H.P. University


The written test will consist of one paper of 130 marks and of 2 hours
duration and shall include the following four sections; General logical ability
and aptitude 40; Mathematics of +2 level 50; basics of computers and its
awareness 25; General English 15; total 130


The minimum qualifying marks in the entrance examination (written test) for
subsidized as well as non-subsidized seats will be 35% i.e. 46 marks out of
total of 130 marks


Centres for the entrance test: The entrance test for
admission to the MCA course shall be held at the following centres


H.P. University campus, Summer Hill, Shimla; Govt College, Mandi; Govt
College, Hamirpur; H.P. University Regional Centre, Dharamshala, Kangra


Under extraordinary circumstances, the University reserves the right to allot
any examination centre to the candidate irrespective of the choice given by the
candidate


Reservation for MCA: 50% seats shall be reserved for the
graduates of Himachal Pradesh University or H.P. Krishi Vishvavidyalaya or Dr YS
Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry and the remaining 50% seats,
shall be filled from the open quota, in which the graduates of this University
shall also be eligible to compete through competitive test; 15% and 7.5% of the
seats shall be reserved for bonafide Himachali SC/ST candidates respectively who
have passed the qualifying examination from any University established by law in
India which is equivalent to the qualifying examination of H.P. University


One supernumerary seat shall be reserved for Himachali bonafide only child
who is a girl. In this respect, an affidavit issued by a competent authority
shall have to be submitted


The admission to the non-subsidized seats provided in the courses of MCA will
be made out of the application on prescribed form accompanied by attested copies
of certificates/testimonials/marks cards etc, received in the office of
Chairman, Computer Science Department, by the specified last date


The eligibility for admission to the courses against these seats will be the
same as provided for other candidates


The admission to these seats will be made on the merit of marks obtained in
the entrance test


The non-subsidized seats will be filled with 75% seats being reserved for
graduates of universities located in Himachal Pradesh and 25% seats being open
for graduates of any University including universities of Himachal Pradesh


In case seats in the category of graduates of university of Himachal Pradesh
remain unfilled, these may be filled out of the applicants belonging to the
other category


If any non-subsidized supernumerary in any of the courses remains unfilled,
it will lapse and will not be merged with the subsidized seats


Fees to be paid


Subsidized and non-subsidized (both) seats: As per
University rules, a university fee amounting to a total of Rs 1,500/-
approximately per semester (subject to change from time to time as per
university rules) is to be deposited at the university fee counter at the time
of seeking admission and subsequently at the time of seeking admission for
continuation in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th semesters. In addition an equipment fees
of Rs 3,000/- (Rs three thousand only) per annum is to be deposited by the
candidates at the time of admission and subsequently at the time of seeking
admission for continuation in 3rd/5th semester in the department in the form of
a demand draft in favour of Chairman, Department of Computer Science, H.P.
University, Shimla


Non-subsidized seats only: In addition to the fees mentioned
in the previous section, a candidates admitted under non-subsidized category
shall also have to pay a consolidated fee of Rs 50,000/- (Rs fifty thousand
only) per annum. This fee shall be deposited in the dept of computer science in
the form of demand draft in favour of Chairman, Department of Computer Science,
H.P. University, Shimla-171005. These dues have to be deposited at the time of
admission to the 1st, 3rd, 5th semesters. This fee shall not cover any boarding,
lodging, medical, travel and other personal expenses


Fee once deposited shall not be refunded in any case


Counseling: The counseling shall be held in the H.P.
University campus for admission to the MCA course2011. The candidates are
required to check the website of the dept (www.hpucs.ac.in)
for the results, merit list and counseling schedules. No separate result cards
and intimation regarding counseling shall be sent to the candidates. The
counseling shall be held strictly as per the duly published counseling schedule
posted on the website. The candidate has to attend the counseling in person
along with all the original testimonials such as date of birth proof, 10+2,
graduation, bonafide resident, proof of only child who is a girl, proof of
category etc


Scheme of examination in MCA: English shall be the medium of
instruction and examination. The pass marks shall be 40% in each written paper
and in the internal assessment separately, and 40% in viva-voce, project work
and semester course and 50% in the aggregate subject to the conditions that
aggregate shall be determined at the end of the examination. Other rules shall
be as per the rules of the university


Application form submission (for both subsidized and non-subsidized
seats):
Duly filled in application form, fee (in the form of DD/IPO),
admit card along with an envelop having postage stamps of Rs 6/- affixed on it
on the space provided must reach the Chairman, Department of Computer Science,
H.P. University, Shimla-5 by the last date fixed for the purpose. The fee
deposited will not be refundable under any circumstances. The applicants are
required to submit the fee in the form of a demand draft or IPO of Rs 650/- for
general category and Rs 325/- for SC/ST/IRDP/Antodaya in favour of Chairman,
Department of Computer Science, H.P. University, Shimla Payable at Shimla


The candidate should write his/her name and father’s name on the back of the
demand draft as well as IPOs


Important dates


Last date for the receipt of application forms in the office of the Chairman
of the Department is: 02nd May, 2011, Monday, 4.00 p.m.


Date of entrance test: 28th May, 2011, Saturday, 3.00 p.m.
to 5.00 p.m.


Date of declaration of result: 14th June, 2011, Tuesday


The schedule for interviews/admission to subsidized seats:
01st July, 2011, Monday, 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.


The applicant called for interview shall be clearly mentioned in the merit
list displayed on the website http://hpucs.ac.in


Last date for admission against the vacant/vacated seats (if any):
16th July, 2011
, Saturday


Admission with the permission of the vice-chancellor, the dead line for
closing admission even, if seat remain vacant for MCA course (for both
subsidized and non-subsidized): 25th July, 2011, Monday


The schedule for Interview/admission to non-subsidized seats: 08th
July, 2011
