Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering acronym as GATE is conducted on all India
basis jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IIS) and seven Indian
Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board -
GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development
(MHRD), Government of India (GOI).
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering GATE is considered to be one of the most

section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.
Applicant should fulfill the minimum age requirements as prescribed.
Important: If an applicant is found ineligible for whatever
reason after admission into the program, his/her admission will be cancelled.

certificates/documents of the students. The decision of the Admissions Committee
regarding eligibility of any applicant shall be final.
Gate 2012 syllabus consists of:
General Aptitude (GA) component common in all papers
Verbal Ability: English grammar, sentence completion, verbal

How many seats are there in the various IIMS?
There are 156 seats available in T.S.Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, 208 in MERI, Kolkata and 39 in MERI, Mumbai. Out of these 10 seats are reserved for foreign nationals in T.S. Chanakya, MERI, Kolkata and MERI, Mumbai for which the details can be directly obtained from Indian Institute of Maritime Studies.
However out of these seats 15% are reserved for SC candidates, 7.5% for ST candidates & 18% are reserved for OBC candidates belonging to non-creamy layer.
There are total 10 seats available for direct admission of foreign nationals to these institutes.

JEE (Advanced ) Exam consists of two papers
JEE (Advanced) - 2013, there will be two question papers, each of three hours duration.The question papers will be bilingual (in English and Hindi). Each of the question papers will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
The questions will be of objective type, designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates. In some sections, incorrect answers will be awardednegative marks.
The answers for each of the questions are to be marked on a separate, 2-sheet carbonlesspaper. Candidate must not separate or disturb the alignment of the upper andlower sheets at any stage during the examination. The upper sheet is specially designed machine readable sheet of paper (ORS-Optical Response Sheet).
While answering each of the questions the candidate is expected to darken the bubble(s) against correct answer(s) only on the upper sheetusing black ball point pen. The darkening on the upper sheet should be done in such a manner that the impression is seen on the lower sheet. Responses recorded on the upper sheet only will be taken as final. The candidate can take away the lower sheet with the permission of the invigilator(s) at the end of the examination.
Admission to IITs and ISM Dhanbad will bebased only on category wise All India Rank(AIR) in JEE (Advanced) - 2013, subject to thecondition that such candidates are in the top 20percentile of successful candidates of theirBoards in respective categories.
For candidates who passed their Boardexamination for the first time in 2012, theeligibility criteria for admission to any of the IITsor ISM Dhanbad is 60% marks (55% marks forSC/ST/PD) in their 12thStandard or equivalentqualifying examination.
In case a Board does not provide theinformation regarding the cut-off for top 20percentile of successful candidates, thecandidate will have to produce a certificatefrom the concerned Board stating that he/shefalls within the top 20 percentile. In case thepercentile score is not available from anytesting agency, the CBSE cut-off score for top20 percentile for the students category will beused.
If the candidate fails to do so, then the CBSEpercentile will be used as the criteria fordeciding minimum percentage of marks in thequalifying examination.
If any Board awards only letter grades withoutproviding an equivalent percentage of markson the grade sheet, the candidate shouldobtain a certificate from the Board specifyingthe equivalent marks, and submit it at the timeof counselling. JEE (Advanced) will consist of two question papers, each of three hours duration.The question papers will be bilingual (in English and Hindi). Each of the question papers will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
The questions will be of objective type, designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates. In some sections, incorrect answers will be awardednegative marks.
Essential requirement for taking JEE Exam
Candidates are supposed to carry all the essential thing required to take JEE exam that include thieAdmit Card to gain entry in the examination hall, a good quality Ball Point Pen.
For Paper-2 of JEE (Main), the candidates are advised to bring their own clip board, geometry box set, pencils, erasers and colour pencils or crayons.

Application Procedure for JEE (Main):
Candidate can visit official website of JEE i.e. www.jeemain.nic.in to apply online in order to appear in JEE (Main) and/or JEE (Advanced) 2013. The online registration form will be available on JEE (Main) website from 8th November, 2012 to 15th December, 2012.

Top 1,50,000 candidates qualified in Paper-I- i.e JEE (Main) (including all the categories) are eligible to register for JEE (Advanced) - 2013. To write JEE (Advanced) 2013 all eligible candidates should register through online at [http://jeeadv.iitd.ac.in/] during 8 May to 13 May, 2013.
After online registration, candidates must pay the examination fee as applicable through challan (generated during registration process)of all SBI branches having core banking solution (CBS) on or before 13 May, 2013. Registration is complete only after thepayment.

The examination fee for GE and OBC(NCL) male candidates isRs.1800.The fee for SC,ST, PD male candidates isRs.900.There is no fee for female candidates of all categories.
Number of Attempts for JEE (Main)
You can attempt to clear the JEE (Main) Exam three (3) times in consecutive years. For example the candidates who passed their +2 exam in 2011 or 2012 or who are appearing for their +2 exams in 2013 are only eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2013.
Candidates who passed their +2 in 2010 or before or who are appearing for their +2 exams in 2014 is not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2013.
