National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Under Graduates- NEET UG

8/12/2013 Exams info

NEET UG - National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Under Graduates acronym as NEET UG will be taken by CBSE on behalf of Ministry of Health and Medical Science from 2013 (replacing State Level Medical Entrance Tests as well as CBSE's AIPMT)to admit aspiring candidates to undergraduate medical course (MBBS and BDS) throughout India.

A merit list will be prepared on the basis of NEET UG scores which will be applicable for admission to nearly 355 recognised MBBS colleges and 300 BDS collegeswith nearly 31,000 seats.

However State Quotas and Reservations in Medical Colleges would remain intact as National Eligibility cum Entrance Test will draw up merit lists at national and state levels separately for General Category, SC, ST and OBC and PD candidates. Besides, NEET UG will not interfere with the management quota of the private medical and dental colleges.

Although NEET will be applicable to mostly all the Medical Colleges in India but there were some exclusions. These are AFMC - Armed Forces Medical College, AIIMS- All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER-Chandigarh) as these institutions were set up by separate laws and will be out of the purview of NEET- UG.

NEET UG Eligibility

The aspiring candidates should have passed 12th class examination, minimum of 50% (General category) and 40% (Reserved category) in aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology from a recognized board before admission

NEET UG Pattern

NEET UG will be paper based single response type MCQ paper with 250 questions to be completed in 3 Hr.

  5. Date of birth (older person will be placed higher in the rank).

There will not be any negative marking in NEET UG exam and the merit list will be prepared on the basis of percentile score of all NEET MBBS applications.
